EXCLUSIVE: Anya Singh bags Vikram Bhatt’s 1920: Cold Winter; reunites with Ahan Shetty after Border 2
A couple of weeks after the release and surprising box office performance of Haunted – Echoes Of The Past, director Vikram Bhatt and producer Anand Pandit announced that they would join hands for 1920: Cold Winter. A month later, in July 2026, it was reported that Ahan Shetty has signed the horror flick. And now, Bollywood Hungama has come across an interesting information about the film.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Anya Singh, who became widely known after The Ba***ds Of Bollywood, has come on board as the female lead of the film. The makers were impressed by Anya’s screen presence and talent, and felt that she would be apt for the part. Anya is also excited as she has never attempted horror before in Bollywood.”
Interestingly, both Ahan Shetty and Anya Singh also shared screen space in this year’s super-hit war film, Border 2. While Ahan played the role of Lt Cdr Mahendra Singh Rawat, Anya was seen as his wife, Sudha Rawat. Hence, 1920: Cold Winter marks the second film in which Ahan Shetty and Anya Singh will be paired opposite each other.
As per reports, 1920: Cold Winter will go on floors in November this year. It will be the sixth film in the 1920 franchise. The series began with 1920 in 2008. It was directed by Vikram Bhatt and launched Adah Sharma and Rajniesh Duggal. While 1920 was average, the next film, 1920: Evil Returns (2012), was a semi-hit. It starred Aftab Shivdasani and Tia Bajpai and was directed by Bhushan Patel. 1920 London (2016), meanwhile, was directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and featured Sharman Joshi and Meera Chopra. Vikram Bhatt was involved with the second and third parts as writer and producer.
1921 (2018) was produced, written and directed by Vikram and it featured Zareen Khan and Karan Kundrra. While 1920 London flopped at the box office, 1921 was an average grosser.
1920: Horrors Of The Heart (2023) was also directed by Vikram Bhatt and it was his first association with producer Anand Pandit. Starring Avika Gor and Danish Pandor, the horror flick performed decently at the box office.

Sayani Gupta’s Aasmani cleared of copyright infringement allegations by SWA
Sayani Gupta’s directorial debut Aasmani has been cleared of copyright infringement allegations by the Screenwriters Association’s (SWA) Dispute Settlement Committee (DSC). The complaint had been filed against Gupta and editor Paramita Ghosh, alleging similarities between the short film Aasmani and Prabha, an unfinished documentary.
After examining the submissions from both sides and carrying out independent expert comparisons, the DSC observed that the two works shared only an underlying idea. According to the committee, the storytelling, character development, conflict and overall story arc were different in the two works.
The DSC further noted that copyright law protects the expression of an idea rather than the idea itself. It also took into account that the complainant’s work is a documentary based on the publicly known life of a real person.
The committee also referred to a separate defamation suit filed by Gupta against the complainant. The court has reportedly passed an order favourable to Gupta in that matter. Since certain issues involved in the defamation proceedings overlap with those raised in the DSC complaint, the matter is now sub judice, which prevents the DSC from proceeding with further adjudication.
Accordingly, the SWA proceedings have been concluded and the complaint has been closed at its end, without prejudice to the legal rights and remedies available to either party.
The development comes as Aasmani continues its international festival journey. The copyright complaint had emerged during the film’s festival run, and the closure of the proceedings brings the dispute before the SWA to an end.
Reacting to the development, Gupta said, “As I had said earlier, truth will always prevail. I had respected the process and grateful that the truth has come out. It always does. This has been the most harrowing experience of my life. But as my grandmother would often quote Tagore and say 'tomar potaka jaare dao, bohibare dao shokoti'.. ‘whoever you give your flag to bear, you also give them the strength to bear it.’”

IMPPA issues clarification over ‘incorrect’ interpretation of Bombay High Court order
The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) has issued a clarification regarding what it described as incorrect interpretations of a recent order passed by the Bombay High Court in connection with a dispute between Saffron Magicworks Private Limited (owned by Nikhil Dwivedi) and Andolan Films Private Limited (owned by Vikramaditya Motwane). IMPPA has also been impleaded in the proceedings.
According to the association, certain communications and news reports currently in circulation have presented an inaccurate understanding of the scope and effect of the High Court’s order. IMPPA stated that its involvement in the matter was limited to carrying out its institutional responsibilities under its Memorandum and Articles of Association.
The association explained that the dispute between Saffron Magicworks Private Limited and Andolan Films Private Limited had been placed before IMPPA’s Dispute Resolution Committee. Any determination or direction issued by the committee, it clarified, was related to the parties involved in the dispute and the specific issues that had been brought before it.
IMPPA further stressed that it has no independent commercial claim or interest in the underlying dispute between the two companies. The association also urged that the High Court’s order should be understood strictly on the basis of its express terms.
Addressing reports suggesting restrictions on its functioning, IMPPA clarified, “No blanket restraining order has been passed against IMPPA restraining the discharge of its institutional functions.” The association said that some reports presently being circulated do not accurately reflect the order’s scope or its implications for IMPPA.
IMPPA also stated that it does not accept any characterization of the court order that goes beyond what has been expressly stated by the High Court. The association maintained that it will continue to carry out its responsibilities in accordance with applicable law, its governing framework and the directions issued by the court.
The clarification comes amid reports and communications surrounding the legal dispute involving Saffron Magicworks and Andolan Films. Through its statement, IMPPA has sought to distinguish its institutional role from the commercial dispute between the two parties and clarify the extent of the court’s directions concerning the association.

Rani Mukerji honoured with Raj Kapoor special contribution award at Maharashtra State Film Awards 2026
Rani Mukerji was honoured with the Raj Kapoor Special Contribution Award at the 62nd Maharashtra State Film Awards ceremony held in Mumbai on Wednesday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presented the award to the actor in the presence of Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar and members of the film fraternity.
The award recognises Rani’s contribution to Indian cinema and her long-standing association with Mumbai and Maharashtra. Born and brought up in Mumbai, the actor has built a career spanning several decades, with films including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Tum, Bunty Aur Babli, Black, Talaash, Hichki and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway among her credits.
While accepting the honour, Rani spoke about her connection with Maharashtra and described the state as an important part of both her personal and professional journey. She said, "Majhyasathi Maharashtra fakt ek rajya nahi. "Maharashtra majhi janmabhoomi aahe. Majhi karmabhoomi aahe. Ani majhya ayushyacha ek avibhajya bhaag aahe (For me, Maharashtra is not just a state. Maharashtra is my birthplace. It is the land where I built my career. And it is an inseparable part of my life)."
Talking about Mumbai’s role in her life, Rani added, "Mumbai has given me my identity. It has given me an audience. It has given me a career. And it has been my home, my safe place, my everything. So this award will hold a very special place in my heart because whenever I look at it, I will not just see an award. I will see my Mumbai, my Maharashtra."
Rani also reflected on the kind of characters she has chosen throughout her career. "I have always silently worked to represent the powerful girls and women of India through cinema that has its heart in the right place."
She further said, "I chose characters that felt truthful, that I felt instinctively drawn towards for their story, their journey and their resilience. Characters who had courage. Characters who had flaws. Characters who refused to disappear into the background. Women who were never waiting for someone else to rescue them."
Concluding her remarks, Rani said, "I have never considered cinema merely a profession. For me, cinema is a deep emotion. And Maharashtra is the home of that emotion."

Lust Stories 3 trailer out: Netflix anthology promises messy relationships, unexpected choices and shades of desire
The wait is almost over! Netflix has unveiled the trailer for Lust Stories 3, the much-anticipated return of its International Emmy®️-nominated anthology, bringing together four acclaimed filmmakers — Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj — for four fresh stories of love, relationships, desire and everything that can go wonderfully, hilariously and painfully wrong.
This time, there’s more drama, more chaos and more heartbreak. Told through four distinct cinematic worlds, Lust Stories 3 brings together an ensemble of some of the finest contemporary talent, including Radhika Apte, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Radhika Madan, Sana Thampi, Vijay Varma, Abhishek Banerjee, Siddharth, Ali Fazal and Gurfateh Pirzada, as they navigate complicated relationships, unexpected choices, emotional entanglements and the many shades of desire.
The trailer offers audiences a glimpse into four very different stories, each carrying its own tone, rhythm and surprises, while remaining connected by a larger exploration of what people want, what they hold back and how those desires can shape the relationships around them. Balancing humour and chemistry with moments of vulnerability and introspection, Lust Stories 3 promises an emotionally layered ride that is as entertaining as it is relatable.

A post shared by Netflix India (@netflix_in)
Talking about being a part of the anthology, Vikramaditya Motwane says, “What drew me to Lust Stories 3 was the chance to explore what happens when the comfort of everyday life begins to rub up against the desire for something unexpected, and this story allowed me to explore that space with warmth, humour and a little bit of unpredictability. Bringing it to life with the crew, the producers, Netflix, and with this madly gifted cast was an incredible experience.”
Kiran Rao adds, “What interested me about this story was how the first sparks of an attraction can quickly become something far more complicated. Desire makes us curious, and sometimes willing to take chances we normally wouldn’t. I was interested in what happens when those choices begin to have unexpected consequences. The anthology format, and the creative freedom Netflix gave us, allowed me to play with intimacy and humour. I really enjoyed finding that balance, letting the characters follow their impulses, and take us to surprising territory. I hope it’s a fun, unpredictable ride that keeps the audience on their toes.”
Shakun Batra says, ‘’For me, the most interesting relationships are the ones where people don’t quite know what they’re feeling, or how to make sense of it. Affection, insecurity, allure and frustration can all exist at the same time, often in ways that surprise us. I wanted to explore that emotional ambiguity with honesty, without judging the characters or trying to give them easy answers. There’s something inherently dramatic, and often quite funny, about watching people navigate those contradictions. Working with such a talented cast, and having the creative space with Netflix to let those emotions unfold naturally, made this a really rewarding experience.’’
Vishal Bhardwaj concludes, "What fascinates me about desire is how deeply it is connected to imagination - to the stories we tell ourselves, and sometimes the stories we are afraid to tell out loud. I was drawn to the idea of exploring that space through a character finding her own voice and discovering what happens when that voice reaches beyond her. There’s humour, mischief and emotion in that journey, but also questions about identity, expression and who gets to tell stories about desire. That made this a particularly exciting story for me to explore. Being part of an anthology with three such distinctive filmmakers was a wonderful creative experience, and Netflix gave all of us the freedom to tell these stories in our own way"
With four acclaimed directors bringing their individual sensibilities to the anthology, Lust Stories 3 promises a celebration of distinctive storytelling, unforgettable characters and the beautiful messiness of human relationships. The trailer is out now. Lust Stories 3 premieres September 18, only on Netflix.

Rajpal Yadav gets interim relief from Supreme Court in cheque dishonour cases, asked to deposit Rs 5 crores
Actor Rajpal Naurang Yadav has received interim relief from the Supreme Court in connection with a series of cheque dishonour cases. On Tuesday, the court exempted him from surrendering for the time being, subject to his depositing Rs 5 crores with the Registry by Wednesday.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana passed the order after petitions filed by Rajpal Yadav and his wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, were orally mentioned before the court by Advocate-on-Record Saurabh Trivedi.
The matter relates to multiple cheque dishonour cases involving M/s Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd. and allegations concerning payments linked to the actor's production company. What did the High Court order? The Supreme Court's interim relief follows proceedings before the High Court, where Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma had directed that the sentences imposed on Rajpal Yadav in seven cases would run concurrently.
The actor was also directed to pay Rs 1.05 crore in each of the seven cases to the complainant. Of this amount, Rs 1,04,75,000 in each case was to be paid as compensation to the complainant, while Rs 25,000 was to be paid to the State.
Radha Yadav was separately directed to pay Rs 5,51,380 to the complainant in each of the seven cases.
The High Court also took into account the Rs 2.25 crores that had already been paid to and released in favour of the complainant during the proceedings. It directed that this amount be adjusted while determining the remaining fine and compensation payable.
The High Court had earlier granted Rajpal Yadav two months to challenge its judgment before the Supreme Court. His sentence was suspended during this period.

Nora Fatehi sued for Rs 3 crores by aviation company over alleged “toy” and “Lego airplane” comments: Report
Actress Nora Fatehi has reportedly landed in a legal dispute after aviation company Dunes Aviation filed a Rs 3 crores civil defamation suit against her at a Gandhinagar court over comments she allegedly made about one of its chartered aircraft on social media.
According to a PTI report, Dunes Aviation has accused Nora of making “derogatory and reckless” remarks after she shared videos from inside the company’s aircraft during a Mumbai-Jaipur flight in December last year. The company has alleged that the actress referred to the aircraft as a “miniature”, a “toy” and a “Lego airplane” in the videos posted on her Instagram account.
The matter is reportedly scheduled to come up before senior civil judge R Agarwal on September 25. Dunes Aviation claims social media posts affected business In its suit, Dunes Aviation has reportedly claimed that Nora’s remarks reached a substantial audience because of her social media following, which the company puts at more than 4.6 crores followers.
The aviation firm has alleged that the posts caused reputational and commercial damage, including booking cancellations and a decline in business. According to the company, its bookings dropped by 15 to 20 per cent following the controversy, while cancellations increased.
Dunes Aviation has described Nora’s alleged comments as “reckless, irresponsible, and made without any technical knowledge, verification or factual basis”. The company has further claimed that the remarks resulted in “serious reputational damage, loss of goodwill and adverse commercial impact”. Company defends aircraft’s certification and operation Dunes Aviation has also addressed the comments about the aircraft itself. According to the suit, the Cessna Citation CJ2 used for the Mumbai-Jaipur journey was a standard aircraft and appropriately sized for the flight.
The company has stated that the aircraft was fully DGCA-certified and airworthy and was being operated legally under a valid Non-Scheduled Operator’s Permit (NSOP). What Dunes Aviation has sought from Nora Fatehi Apart from Rs 3 crores in damages, Dunes Aviation has reportedly asked the court to direct Nora to remove social media posts and other online content containing the alleged remarks or references to the aircraft.
The company has also sought a public clarification from the actress over the comments.

25 Years of Nayak: Anil Kapoor says, “The love for your country… Will never be irrelevant” in a heartfelt note
Anil Kapoor is marking 25 years of Nayak: The Real Hero, the 2001 political drama that continues to remain relevant for its portrayal of governance, corruption and an ordinary man stepping into a position of power. On September 7, the actor shared a video montage featuring memorable scenes from the film and reflected on what drew him to the role of Shivaji Rao.
In his post, Anil Kapoor wrote, “25 years of Nayak. What drew me to Shivaji Rao was never just the journey from a common man to the Chief Minister. It was what he chose to do once he got there, to use the power he had to make a difference to the people.”
He further recalled the significance of portraying a character driven by a sense of purpose, adding, “To portray a role with that kind of purpose was a privilege and perhaps that is why Nayak continues to find its way back to people even after 25 years.”
The actor also reflected on the film's central message and why he continues to be proud of being associated with it. “The love for your country, and the desire to do better for its people will never be irrelevant, and I will always be proud to have been a part of such a story,” he wrote. What is Nayak about? Directed by S. Shankar, Nayak follows Shivaji Rao, a television cameraman and reporter played by Anil Kapoor. The story begins when Shivaji gets an opportunity to interview Maharashtra Chief Minister Balraj Chauhan, played by Amrish Puri.
During the live interview, Shivaji questions the Chief Minister on issues concerning the state and puts him in a difficult position. In an attempt to counter the reporter's criticism, the Chief Minister challenges Shivaji to take charge as Chief Minister for a day and experience the pressures of running the state.
25 years of Nayak.

Shivaji accepts the challenge and uses the opportunity to take several strong decisions against corruption and administrative failures. His actions eventually put him in conflict with powerful political interests, leading to threats against him and his family.
The film also features Rani Mukerji, Paresh Rawal, Saurabh Shukla, Johny Lever, Shivaji Satam, Neena Kulkarni and others in pivotal roles. Nayak was released in India on September 7, 2001. Nayak continues to find relevance Over the years, Nayak has developed a strong following and is frequently discussed for its political themes and its central idea of an ordinary citizen getting an opportunity to bring about change. The film was a Hindi remake of Shankar's Tamil film Mudhalvan.
Anil Kapoor's latest anniversary post focuses on the values he believes continue to define the film. By highlighting Shivaji Rao's approach to power rather than simply his transformation from a common man to a Chief Minister, the actor revisited the central idea that made the character memorable.
His post also comes amid continued interest in the film, which has remained a reference point in conversations around political cinema and governance even 25 years after its theatrical release.
